The easy way to deliver weed suppression when laying a hedge, the ‘EzeeHedge’ version of our bio-degradable, all natural, BioWool™ weed matting comes with pre-cut slots to plant through.
Fully biodegradable, the 'EzeeHedge' weed mat rolls are made from unrefined and recycled, ethically-sourced wool and are manufactured in the UK.
The pre-cut slots are in double-staggered rows, spaced at six plants per meter, speeding up the planting process. Roll out, peg down, then plant through the pre-cut slots. It’s that simple.
It means your seedling hedge plants are evenly spaced and competing weeds are suppressed from the moment they are planted (no chemicals involved), giving them the best chance of survival.
BioWool™ weed matting not only suppresses weeds, but protects plant roots from frost, and reduces moisture loss in arid conditions, whilst allowing moisture to pass through in damp conditions.
Benefits:
· Weed suppression
· Temperature control
· Easy to install
· Fully biodegradable
Installation:
· Prepare flattened ground by weeding or strimming prior to installation
· Roll out matting to desired length
· Fix tightly into position with pegs or pins
· Plant through the pre-cut slots
Permeable
Allows air, water and nutrients to pass through to the plant.
Reduced moisture loss
In arid conditions, matting helps retain soil moisture.
Weed suppression
Supresses weeds naturally, without the need for chemicals, by preventing light ingress.
Natural deer deterrent
Contains a high level of lanolin, found in sheep wool, which is known to deter deer.
Temperature protection
Provides an insulating layer to protect plant roots against frost.
Lifespan
2-3 years protection
Designed to be effective for 2-3 years (24 to 36 months) before biodegrading into the soil. Subject to soil type and environmental conditions.
Woven backing
Strong, woven, biodegradable backing prevents birds breaking down for nesting material.
Breaks down to natural elements
Degrades as H2O, CO2, methane and biomass, becoming a form of natural fertiliser.
Fully biodegradable
Natural, wool-based, product is fully biodegradable.
Installation
Strong and durable
Layered wool fibre structure, delivers strength and longevity.
Easy to install
Pre-cut slits in a double staggered row measured at 6 plants per metre intervals.
Can be left in situ
Especially useful in overgrown areas.
No removal needed
Save money - no collection or recycling needed.
1. It is important to prepare the ground
before laying your matting. Ideally weed the area and/or strim to create a flat surface.
2. Place the roll of weed matting at one end of the area you wish to cover and roll out.
3. Should you need to overlap your weed
matting, ensure at least 20-30cm overlap and secure with pegs or metal pins, to protect against weeds breaking through.
4. Once laid, fix the edges with pegs or
metal pins at 50cm intervals.
5. Fold the corners of the cut slot back.
6. Plant your seedling by digging an appropriate hole for the roots of your seedling, placing the seedling in the hole, then firmly heeling in.
7. Gently push the matting back into place against the stem of the plant.
8. Install protection (spirals, wraps or tubes) and relevant support (cane or stake).
