Woods are wonderful

Published 27th Oct 2010

Woodland is proving to be increasingly popular with people of all ages.

The latest findings from the Forestry Commission reveal that 77 per cent of the adult population headed off to walk, picnic, cycle or otherwise relax in their favourite woods last year.

That was the highest percentage recorded since 2001, and the good news is that forest areas attracted leisure seekers of all ages.

The age group most represented among forest visitors was the 35 - 54-year-olds, 84 per cent of whom visited a woodland in 2009

If that's because they're the ones with young families to keep occupied, it's good to see members of the younger generation being introduce early to the pleasures and benefits of trees and woodland.
