We provide a range of Populus bare root plants, including Populus alba, Populus nigra betulifolia, Populus robusta & Populus tremula.

White Poplar (Populus alba) is a medium-sized, fast-growing suckering tree with highly ornamental foliage. The large, almost maple-like leaves are covered in white down, which remains on the underside of the leaf throughout the season.

As Britain’s rarest native tree, it is now recognised that the Black Poplar (Populus nigra betulifolia) needs immediate positive action to prevent any further decline in numbers. A large, fast-growing, broad-headed tree, it was once common on flood plains and in river valleys.

Hybrid Poplar (Populus robusta) is a male clone commonly planted in Britain to provide shelter for buildings and farm land. It is a handsome, fast-growing, leafy tree, with bronzy leaves in spring and an attractive narrowly conical shape.

Aspen (Populus tremula) is medium-sized, fast-growing native deciduous tree. A very distinctive tree, with leaves that shimmer and tremble in the slightest breeze, so that they are constantly moving and rustling. The leaves turn a rich golden yellow in autumn, and the young leaves are bronze in spring, making it attractive at all seasons.
