ROYAL OPENING OF MAYFLOWER WOOD

Lincolnshire based tree nursery, British Hardwood Tree Nursery Ltd., has been awarded the second phase planting of a community woodland at Killingholme, Lincolnshire, on behalf of Conoco Phillips.

Having successfully completed the first phase planting of Mayflower Wood including 35,750 trees, the British Hardwood Tree Nursery is delighted to have also secured the second phase planting of a further 33,000 trees. The woodland was given a royal stamp of approval in June 2005, when the first phase was formally opened by Prince Andrew and later endorsed by environmentalist, Bill Oddie.

Company Director, Andrew Henderson who was present at the Royal opening says "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to complete the scheme on behalf of Conoco Phillips having undertaken Phase 1. The Community Woodland as a whole will have had over 68,500 native trees planted over two seasons. Species will consist of mixed Broadleaves including Common Oak, Ash, Beech and Alder. A large variety of shrubs have also been planted to encourage flora and fauna"

The Woodland in the future will be managed by volunteers and has already enlisted the help of local school children with some of the tree planting. The name ‘Mayflower Wood’ depicts the areas strong links with the Pilgrim Fathers. As well as looped walkways and nature trails throughout the woodland, there will be more open, meadowed, family picnic areas. Educational boards will be introduced throughout the wood highlighting the environmental, archaeological and historical interest within the area.

The British Hardwood Tree Nursery Ltd, employing 9 full time staff, specialise in woodland and hedgerow planting throughout Lincolnshire and the East Midlands. An expanding and large part of their business, however, is the wholesale supply of trees, hedging and forestry products on a nationwide basis. The Company has been established for over 16 years and has gained a reputation for speed of service, competitive pricing and high quality planting stock.

Andrew Henderson continues "one area which we pride ourselves on as a Company, amongst many, is the speed in which we turn around quotations and orders. Farmers are busy people and need an instant response. Nearly always stock can be collected within a day, if not the same day, of making that initial call. We make sure stock levels are high to offer this level of service.

This season has been particularly busy for us with both planting contracts and stock leaving the premises every day on a supply only basis. Naturally securing the Conoco contract is a welcome boost for us and and more importantly reinforces Conocos faith in the quality of our service."
