Planting for "our children's children"

Celebrating the world of trees and nature in hymns and praise, yesterday's (11 February 2018) BBC's Songs of Praise was filmed at Lincoln Cathedral and the Cathedral Copse.  The copse was planted in the Autumn with oak saplings from British Hardwood Tree Nursery.

"Tree of Life"

The "Tree of Life" edition of the programme followed the journey and story of the creation of the Cathedral Copse.  The Songs of Praise host, Claire McCollum, and the Rt Rev James Jones, previous Bishop of Liverpool, planted their own oak saplings in the newly-created wood.  The coverage - available on BBC Iplayer - starts at around the 26 minute mark.

The oaks will grow to serve "our children's children" and provide timber for the sustainable reconstruction and repairs of the Cathedral's roof for centuries to come.
